Coop double cant prevent Heys defeat at Litherland

An 82nd minute strike by winger James Hammill gave Litherland REMYCA a dramatic 4-3 win against Prestwich Heys in an entertaining game at the Litherland Sports Park on Saturday.

Heys were looking to bounce back after two successive home league defeats and giving a debut to new signing Greg Daniels signed in the week from AFC Bury against a Litherland side bottom of the table but recently having a revival under new manager Colin McDonald. Things could not have got off to a worse start for the visitors with only 3 minutes gone when a counter attack found debutant Ryan Cox who slotted the ball past returning Heys keeper Russ Saunders from 6 yards. REMYCA pressed forward with Janes Hammill dangerous on the left and Prestwich were clearly struggling to get a foothold in the game and it was no surprise on 25 minutes when the home side went further ahead and a cross after a run down the left from Michael Ordish found Joe Cawley 6 yards out to slot past Saunders for 2-0. Heys struggled to find any rhythm for the first half hour in a worrying trend of slow starts that has been consistent in the last 3 games but started to make inroads with Greg Daniels missing a chance and were rewarded on 34 minutes when striker Jack Coop on the left lobbed Litherland keeper Ciaran Oloughlin from 20 yards to pull one back for 2-1. While Heys were starting to press, the home side went further ahead on the stroke of half time after a ball over the top found Cox again on the right who similarly lobbed Russ Saunders for a deserved 3-1 lead at the break. Heys got straight into the action after the break aided by Lee Grimshaw who replaced Louis Potts and got a second on 55 minutes and again the excellent Jack Coop going for another lob on the left past Olaughlin as the visitors were now really turning the heat up on a tiring REMYCA. Two further chances followed Coop bringing a save from the home keeper after great work by wing back Krisel Prifti and then agony as Coop has a shot cleared off the line after a cross from Nathan Emery. The pressure told though on 73 minutes and after a lovely ball through the middle found fellow substitute Corey Kelly who ran through and slotted past Oloughlin from 8 yards for 3-3 putting the Heys contingent in the crowd in dreamland. Back came the home side bringing a terrific point blank save 6 yards out from Saunders and now it was end to end with Greg Daniels having a chance on the left after a great one-two with Emery. Just as everyone was getting the breath back a free kick was awarded to Litherland 20 yards out on 82 minutes and the ball was played across for James Hamill to blast the ball bottom right past Saunders to the delight of the home crowd. REMYCA pressed late on bringing another save from Saunders before the referee blew the whistle in this titanic battle. Another defeat for Heys who again gave themselves so much work to do after a poor start to the game but credit for a much improved second half performance, however it was to be Litherlands day as they try to make up ground from the bottom of the table.
