Two goals in the first six minutes from striker Thoms Mcnamara
catapulted Lower Breck to 3-1 win against Prestwich Heys at the
Anfield Community Stadium on Monday.
Heys came into this one after a morale boosting 2-1 win v West Disbury and Chorlton on Thursday night and named a strong side in what was the fourth game in nine days while the hosts were looking for the first win in five matches.
It was Lower Breck straight out of the blocks and in the lead from the
kick off as a ball down the left was crossed in and found Thomas
Mcnamara unmarked four yards out to slot past Hays keeper Jordan
Hadlow.
Prestwich full back Jacob Ngoy limped off shortly after in a challenge that led up to the goal was replaced by Max Bardsley Rowe.
Breck did not let up and it was a second on six minutes a high ball
deep into the box was headed on and after an initial save by Hadlow
the ball came back out to Mcnamara for a tap in to send the hosts into dreamland while Heys were still in the dressing room.
Breck continued to press forward using the wide players well with pace the visitors could not cope with notably Aaqil Campbell having the best of it and was 36 minutes for Heys first shot as captain Aaron Chalmers fired over the bar and it was only at this point Prestwich started to show any pressure as midfielder Vinny Howell brought a save from Breck keeper Theo Roberts with a shot from eighteen yards on
forty two minutes.
The hosts went in at the break with a fully deserved 2-0 lead and if
Heys were to get anything out of this they would need to vastly
improve, and came out hungry from the re start with winger Dylan
Fitzgerald firing over the bar from twenty five yards but back came
Breck with two identical chances on fifty five and fifty eight minutes
dragging a shot wide left from twelve yards.
Back came Heys on the hour Fitzgerald again very unlucky firing into the side netting from 18 yards after great work on the left, but then Mcnamara missed a chance to bag his hat-rick and finish the game as a contest for Breck on sixty seven minutes when he fired over unmarked from six yards out with the goal gaping.
This seemed to galvanize Heys and on seventy two minutes Fitzgerald
fired a twenty yard free kick over the bar and the intensity increased
a minute later when Heys striker Tyler James was brought down in the box by Brecks Kelvin Lugsden the referee had no hesitation in
pointing to the spot waving a red card at the home defender as James
was the last man.
Up stepped Dylan Fitzgerald who was having a busy afternoon, but his penalty was saved easily by keeper Roberts diving to his left to the delight of the home support however, this delight was short lived as on seventy seven minutes Heys striker Rio Clegg found room eighteen yards out and buried a shot low to Roberts left for 2-1 andwe were set for a grandstand finish.
Frustratingly just as the visitors were getting on top Captain
Chalmers was sin binned for something said to the referee after a challenge and sent to the bench for ten minutes so now both sides were a man down.
Prestwich piled forward looking for an equaliser, substitute Saidkhon
Khamidov was unlucky firing wide from six yards after a goalmouth
scramble and as the clock hit 90 minutes Fitzgerald fired another free kick over the bar.
As Heys pushed for a late equaliser they were caught cold down the
other end and after a poor passage of play from the Prestwich defence
the ball found substitute Jordan Shannon on the right who placed a
beautiful shot into the top left corner of the net past Hadlow it was 3-1 deep in injury time and the game was won for Lower Breck.
So, defeat again on Merseyside for Heys and despite a spirited second
half display the damage was done in the opening quarter of the first
half through a lack of concentration and will hope to finish the season on a high in the last league game v Charnock Richard on Saturday 22 April
