A quick two goal burst from Luc Ferry helped Prestwich Heys to an impressive 3-0 victory at Jericho Lane home of South Liverpool on Wednesday night.
Heys came into this one on the back of a 1-1 draw with Colne on Saturday still looking for a first league win while the hosts were in confident mood after a 2-1 win against Glossop North End.
A lively start saw a lovely ball through the middle putting Ferry through but the linesman flagged for offside closely followed by a big chance for Liverpool on the left a shot just wide of the far post.
Erike Sousa then saw a free kick saved by South keeper Lucas Allan and back came the hosts on eighteen minutes rattling the near post from twelve yards but as the half progressed it was the visitors taking control and the deadlock was broken on twenty three minutes when a ball in from the left caused confusion in the Liverpool back four and Luc Ferry was on hand to fire home from six yards past Allan to put Heys in front.
Prestwich continued to press Sousa looking dangerous down the left put in a deep cross that evaded everyone and on thirty eight minutes found themselves further in front and it was Ferry who had just won a free kick in the middle for a foul got up received the ball on the left cut inside and smashed it bottom right from twelve yards for 2-0 putting the visiting supporters in dreamland.
Heys were now in full flow and nearly added a third shortly after and it was Dylan Fitzgerald twelve yards out thundering a shot on the crossbar which bounced down and spun clear to safety as Liverpool were relieved to hear the half time whistle against this Prestwich side growing in confidence.
A key moment in this game came just after the break when South were awarded a penalty for a foul inside the box but Christopher Happi-Fankam saw his shot saved by Heys keeper Louis Hood diving to his right to the delight of his team mates.
Sadly for the visitors Ferry who had put in a superb nights work limped off on fifty five minutes and was replaced by debutant Adam Dahou.
Things got worse shortly after for the hosts with full back Chris Bramell sin binned for descent and Heys applied the pressure Sousa down the right playing in Fitzgerald but his shot was blocked and this started a spell of chances for the forward who dragged a shot wide with the home defence looking for offside on sixty seven minutes and shortly after bringing a terrific save from Liverpool keeper Allan point blank from twelve yards.
Prestwich were dominating with some lovely passing football the hosts had no answer to but an alarm bell rang on eighty two minutes when full back Callum Bond was shown a second yellow card for what the referee saw as time wasting and Heys were down to ten men.
South rallied firing over the bar but with the end approaching it was Heys who finished a great nights work catching Liverpool on the break and it was a great through ball from Dahou finding fellow sub Kade Hargreaves on the left and he made no mistake shooting past Allan from six yards for 3-0.
So, a deserved win here and joint managers Russ Saunders and Matty Russell will be really pleased to see all the hard work done in recent weeks finally came to fruition here and signs this new team is starting to gel with confidence, determination and a will to win.
