HEYS SLIP TO DEFEAT AT TEN MAN KENDAL

A goal from Steven Yawson two minutes from time was enough to give ten man Kendal Town a 2-1 win at Parkside Road on Tuesday night against Prestwich Heys.

Heys travelled up looking to get back to winning ways after a defeat at home to AFC Liverpool the previous Saturday and with Connor Berry suspended managers Lee O'Brien and James Hampson opted to give forward Tyler James his first start.

It was James straight into the action on nine minutes on the right latching onto a great through ball from Darcy O'Connor and his shot from six yards was saved by Kendal keeper Ryan Hogarth.

Back came Kendal on thirteen minutes firing over the bar from twelve yards and with the opening exchanges going at a frantic pace Heys full back Scott Cullen fired wide just after, and James again on twenty eight minutes bringing another save from Hogarth.

Prestwich were enjoying a good spell mid half and had the ball in the net on thirty minutes through midfielder Kai Haigh but winger Dlyan Fitzgerald was flagged for offside.

Heys endeavor was rewarded five minutes later and it was James again who was brought down in the box by Town defender George Phillipson, and as James was the last man the referee awarded both a penalty and a red card for the Kendal centre half, up stepped Fitzgerald to smash the penalty home past Hogarth and put the visitors 1-0 up.

Signs for what was to come through started after Prestwich took the lead as Kendal started seeing more of the ball and a cross in the forty fourth minute from the right eluded everyone and went wide.

So, Heys went in one up at the interval but almost immediately after the break and barely time to finish your Bovril Kendal were flying out of the blocks bringing a save from Prestwich keeper Russ Saunders from twelve yards and with the ten men now in full swing equalised on fifty one minutes when a cracking strike by Shaun Sailor from twelve yards gave Saunders no chance flying into the net.

Kendal were getting in the faces of the visitors winning the 50/50 challenges and started to pepper the Prestwich goal and it was about Heys keeper Saunders keeping them in the game saving a free kick from Jamie Pattinson on the hour and a shot from Finlay Lynch shortly after.

It was Russ to the rescue again on seventy three minutes tipping round the post at full stretch from Lynch for a superb save as Prestwich had little answer to the Town pressure but on eighty two minutes after some great work by Callum Nicholas, Fitzgerald fired over from eighteen yards.

Back came Kendal a minute later and a great ball frow Steven Yawson put Pattinson clean through but he lost his footing and hit a tame shot the Saunders collected easily.

The home side pressure finally told in the eighty eighth minute as a shot from twelve yards deflected of Yawson and flew past Sunders to put Kendal in front and with Heys offering no response in the closing minutes turned out to be a deserved winner.

So the ten men of Kendal triumphed and for Heys it was a disappointing result in a game that should have been so much more, and this is now back to back defeats for Prestwich after an impressive start to the season but in context twelve points from the first seven games is still a solid effort for a team that was largely made of newcomers at the start of the campaign and so will analyse and re group from this ready for the upcoming games.
