It was heartbreak for Prestwich Heys as a ninety fifth minute injury time header from Che Trapasso -Tully secured a 1-0 win for Burscough at the wind and rain swept Community Ground on Tuesday night.
Heys were looking to find some form after only two wins in the first ten league games made five changes from Saturdays 4-1 defeat at Padiham while the hosts were running into some form after wins in the last two matches pushing them up the table.
It was Burscough first out of the blocks with a twenty yard half volley from Peter Moore that he couldn't keep down an flew over the bar and Heys responded five minutes later when Sonny Reeves hit an ambitious shot from twenty five yards that ending up shaving the outside of the Burscough far post and Regan Jarrett ran down the left shortly after seeing his shot saved by home keeper Kier Barry.
Heys were getting a foothold in the game and on twenty minutes careless play from the home defence found Kyle Preece but his shot sailed over the bar and shortly after the home defence were looking shaky again as the ball deflected to Reeves but his shot was blocked.
Back came Burscough on twenty six minutes Adam Dawson bringing a save from Louis Hood as the conditions deteriorated with combined high winds and rain making it increasingly difficult to take full control of the game.
Heys pressed forward again on thirty five minutes Adam Dahou had a short blocked and the ball was played back in to Jordan Southworth who fired over the bar.
So, nothing in it at the break at 0-0 and all to play for in the second half in which Prestwich were hit with an early blow when Sonny Reeves limped off after a challenge and was replaced by Luke Ferry.
The game was developing into a midfield battle with very few chances Dahou made a lovely run on fifty six minutes and tried to put Preece through but the ball was just a yard to far in front of him.
Burscough had a big chance on sixty nine minutes when an in swinging free kick was fired wide from three yards as defences were on top notably Heys Shay Stansfield was in commanding form.
The visitors pushed forward late on looking for a winner Dahou knocking a great ball in on the right to the head of Ferry but he cant connect and Ferry again five minutes firing wide from six yards out.
As the board went up for six minutes injury time it was looking like both teams would be earning a deserved point but, not for the first time this season in Heys games we were to have late drama at the wrong end and so it was again in the ninety fifth minute as Louis Hood initially makes a terrific save from a shot on the right he parries out to Adam Dawson on the left who knocks in a lovely cross finding the head of Trapasso Tully who made no mistake from close range to the delight of the home crowd and this was to be the final action of the evening.
So, despite a battling effort it was again no reward for Prestwich Heys who deserved a point but a lapse in concentration at the end cost them dearly and with a lack of fire power at the other end of the pitch is a major factor in these early season struggles with just eleven goals in the first eleven league games three of which came in the one game .However, if they continue to battle and fight the way they are doing in each game they can get out of this current slump if they can find the net again.
